  CHIANGRAI PROVINCE The province, which is located within the renowned Golden Triangle area where Myanmar, Laos and Thailand converge, is also known as the gateway to Myanmar, Laos and Southern China. Chiang Rai, which was founded in 1262 by King Meng Rai, was the first capital of the Lanna Thai Kingdom (Kingdom of a million rice fields), which was later conquered by Burma. It was not until 1786 that Chiang Rai became a Thai territory and was proclaimed a province during the reign of King Rama VI in 1910.

  Day 1

  • Mae Kachan Natural Hot Springs our first stop was to Pong Num Ron Hot Spring or The Mae Kachan Hot Springs are located just a kilometre north of the Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai road turnoff. Here you will see lots of tribal people with baskets of eggs. You could either purchase your our basket of eggs and cook it yourself or have those already cooked and just fish out from the hot spring well. This is a natural hot spring and you could head down to the stream and touch the hot spring water. Some even went for a dip in the hot spring.  There are a range of shops, cafes and spa baths available.
  • Tham Pla (Fish Cave) Monkey and fish cave Tham Pla is located in Pong Ngam village of Mae Sai. It is easy to go there by taking High Way No. 10 from Mae Chan – Mae Sai and turn left at Ban Tham Market. At Ban Tham Market there is a sign of Wat Tham Pla then follow the direction. Wat Tham Pla is at the other end of this road.  Tham Pla is 100 m. away from parking lot. It is a small canal that water flows from a tunnel under lime stone mountains. Since it was ignored and tourists dropped food to the water these leads to the dirty water . There are many kinds of fishes such as carp and gold fishes. Not many people can see the historic fish related to the cavern called “Pla Heeb Neeb Ping”. The Fish cave is a lake that ends directly at the mountain – or better in it, since the cave goes on under water. In the lake a lot of Koi (special fish – ask any collector how pricey they are) swim. You can feed the fish and enjoy the surrounding a little. I really liked the monks around here. Wonderful contrast between their orange robes and the green surrounding. History of Fish Cave;
    According to a legend of Yonok said that once the Lord Buddha came here and a villager gave him grilled fishes. The Lord Buddha wished those fishes became alive again and liberated them to a hole at Plew Plong Fah. Phra Anond, the Lord Buddha’s follower, poured water from his bowl into the hole and it became a canal later. After that the Lord Buddha closed the hole and put his hair in a stone that he used for closing it. In 1500 B.E. King Uchutarat of Yonoknakorn had established a pagoda for collecting a relic of the Lord Buddha at Plew Plong Fah cavern. There is another pagoda that not far from it called “In Plaeng Pagoda”. It is said that Indra (a name of god) disguised himself as a Myanmar’s ascetic called U-Suai Lah built this pagoda in 2455 B.E. When the pagoda was done the ascetic disappeared and nobody have seen him.
  • Mae Sai the farthest northern town on the Thai – Myanmar a border this is the northernmost spot in Thailand. In fact, there is a sign to the right of this bridge that says just that and you can have your picture taken underneath it. There is a lot of cross-border activity going on here with markets on both sides. Passport for those who already have got Laos and Myanmar visa can travel everywhere in both country for 15-30 days.
  • Lunch at local restaurant.

  Day 2

  • The Golden Triangle; A trip to Chiang Rai province would not be complete without seeing the notorious Golden Triangle first hand! This famed border location where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet on the Mekong River was once supposed to be the center of all the poppy cultivation in Thailand. This area where the Mekong River meets the Ruak River is locally referred to as “Sop Ruak”. Within this area are remains of many ancient places and structures attesting to the fact that the area had been settled by people in the past.will have a buffet lunch at Golden Triangle. It is also the area where various legends concerning the Lanna ancestors originate. Boats can be hired in order to view the upstream scenery of the Golden Triangle and to travel you can also enjoy the boat ride to view the splendor of mighty Mae Khong River (Optional). Visit Market at Done Xao in Laos. The Golden Triangle is the intersection of the three countries: Myanmar, Thailand and Laos. We took a boat ride along and across the Mae Kong (Mekong) River, which has its origins in China, and set foot on this Laotian village of Don Xao. Sob Ruak’s most enjoyable tourist pastime is its boat tours. Long tail boats are available for hire here, and cruising up and down the Mekong River allows visitors a glimpse of village life in the many riverside settlements – particularly over in Laos. There is also a casino, popular with Thai folk, over on the Myanmar side and special arrangements have to be made to get there – though they are not difficult.Visit the Opium museum Return to the hotel. After that take a short drive to Chiang Saen the ancient city the first Thai settlement ruins of 14th century by the Maekhong River.
  • Long Necked Padong: visit amazing with Longneck Padong  people. The land of the giraffe women as polish explorer Vitold De Golist called it.  Lies in Eastern Burma Plateau dimpled by terraced, paddy-filled valley. Here lives Padang, a tribe of about 7000 members. Legend claims that the brass rings protect the women from tiger bites. But actually the practice of wearing them helps maintain individual and tribal identity. Rings worn on arms and legs may weigh a woman down with and additional 30 pounds of brass. Since leg coils hamper walking the women waddle. Constrained from drinking in the usual head-back position, a ring wearer leans forward to sip though a straw. And the voices of wearer, wrote British jouralist, sound ” as if they were speaking up the shaft of a well”
  • Wat Rong Khun  Rong Khun village where is about 10 km south of Chiangrai city and only slightly off the super highway. It is designed by the national artist name Mr. Chalermchai Kositpipat. The main temple building or Ubosot is a distinctive white color and decorated with fragments of reflective glass and can be seen from afar. Painting and murals inside the temple are also very beautiful.
